How did you become a stylist?

I did a lot of interning and assisting before I decided I wanted to styling. I was interning at Atlantic Records when I realised I could make it my career.

What made you want to go into fashion, and why styling?

I’ve always been interested in fashion and music. I think fashion styling is the perfect blend of both; you can create a whole image for someone based on their music and watch it come to life.

What was your favourite styling job?

My favourite styling job was definitely assisting T.I’s stylist for the 2009 Grammy Awards. He performed “Swagger Like Us” w/Kanye, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z. It was pretty surreal. I was sitting in the dressing room with all these stars around me thinking “is this real?”

What tips would you give other aspiring stylists?

Hard work, as cliché as it sounds. This job is not for the weak hearted, everyone will tell you, you can’t do it. You have to want it, and believe.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations in the industry?

Music is my biggest inspiration. I listen to everything from Young Jeezy to The Smiths. The type of music I’m into at a certain time sets the tone for my style and creativity.

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Every client I get a chance to style is a big achievement for me. I still have a lot of growing and learning to do.

What will be your next move in your career?

I want to start styling films and TV shows. Eventually start my own styling agency and open a boutique.
