Shimmering lights set the backdrop for designer Gareth Pugh’s Fall 2011 collection, which returned to the runway after an artsy movie presentation last season. The show opened with a series of the house’s signature looks: asymmetrical molded coats in gothic black, pieced together by sturdy strips of fabric, and airy silk jersey dresses accessorized by long black leather gloves.
It seemed the show would continue on one dark note until a long sleeve black shift burst onto the catwalk with a billowing cobalt blue cape, portending a shift in tone.
Suddenly, a series of bright blue silk dresses appeared on the runway, along with sparkling gold pieces that both skimmed silhouettes with ethereal panels of fabric or molded to the frame with sequin peppered panels of leather.
