GREY, GREY, GO AWAY

“If you’re in a pinch and gray roots are showing, try applying eye shadow or brow shadow in your desired shade to camouflage,” says Marie Robinson, super star hair colorist and owner of her eponymous salon. Robinson, whose clients include Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Watts, and Michelle Williams, knows that camouflage is the quickest, easiest, least intrusive method to immediately hide those pestering greys.

Age has a tendency to show up at the most inopportune times—like between color appointments and as they say, pluck a gray hair and three more will grow back in its place. No, thank you.

Blondes needn’t worry about greys as much, but if you’re any shade of brown, black or red, grey will rear its ugly head, so here’s the quick fix: Take an eye shadow brush and blend a few shadows together to make a shade that matches your roots. Roots are often dark, so even if you have highlights, don’t worry, a dark shade will do the trick. Apply the desired hue with the shadow brush directly onto your roots (and an inch down the hair shaft for optimum blending), and, voila, instant hair lift.

The best part, it washes out with soap and water, so if you make a mistake, no need to freak. Simply try again.
